GLS vs. Q7: Value and Features

While the Audi Q7 is a little more affordable than the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV, you won’t be entirely happy with the features that the Audi has to offer. Even when you compare the higher-end Q7 to the entry-level GLS SUV, you’ll see that you’re still getting more options in the latter vehicle.

Even on the top trim level of the 2021 Q7, the features listed below will cost extra wherever they’re available:

  • Ventilated front seats
  • Front passenger’s lumbar support
  • Remote starting system
  • Air suspension

Each of these amenities comes standard on the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450. Also, only the GLS offers heated third-row seats and second-row captain’s chairs as optional upgrades.

GLS vs. Q7: Dimensions & Cargo Space

The exciting new GLS interior can seat either six or seven adult passengers, depending on whether you’re choosing the second-row captain’s chair that was mentioned above. The new Audi Q7 seats seven passengers. Many Hampton and Norfolk drivers will enjoy the extra flexibility that the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV offers. Let’s compare the Audi Q7 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLS dimensions below:

2021 Audi Q7 Dimensions Inside

    • Front Headroom: 39.9 inches
    • Middle Headroom: 38.8 inches

    • Middle Legroom: 38.8 inches
    • Rear Legroom: 29.2 inches
    • Cargo Space Behind the Third Row: 14.2 cubic feet
    • Cargo Space with All Seats Flat: 69.6 cubic feet

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS Dimensions Inside

    • Front Headroom: 39.4 inches
    • Middle Headroom: 40.2 inches
    • Rear Headroom: N/A
    • Front Legroom: 40.3 inches
    • Middle Legroom: 41.9 inches
    • Rear Legroom: 34.6 inches
    • Cargo Space Behind the Third Row: 17.4 cubic feet
    • Cargo Space with All Seats Flat: 84.7 cubic feet

For the rear-seated passengers, the three extra inches of second-row legroom make long drives more comfortable, and having more than five extra inches of third-row legroom makes a world of a difference.

GLS vs. Q7: Performance Specs

Rear-seated passengers are not the only ones who will prefer the GLS. The three-row luxury SUV comes standard with a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine with EQ Boost. Below is a look at each vehicle’s engine performance:

  • Engines: The standard GLS engine produces 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Q7 only comes standard with a lackluster 248-hp 2.0-liter I-4, and even if you upgrade to a higher trim level, you will still only get up to 335 horsepower. The GLS offers up to 483 horsepower or up to 603 in its AMG® configuration.
  • Transmission and Ride Quality: The GLS offers a 9G-TRONIC® nine-speed automatic transmission and standard air suspension, compared to the Q7’s eight-speed automatic transmission and coil springs.
