What is Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS®?

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Front Interior and Dash

Williamsburg drivers know that their Mercedes-Benz keeps them safe on the road, but what is Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS®? Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS® active cruise control is a safety technology that keeps you safe on the road by maintaining the vehicle’s speed and distance from the vehicle in front of you.

With the use of radar technology, DISTRONIC PLUS® monitors the distance and intuitively makes adjustments when needed making sure you stay with the flow of traffic. Using Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS®

Most new Mercedes-Benz models come equipped with the DISTRONIC PLUS® system. Hampton drivers will find that using the system is relatively simple when following these steps:

  • Similar to other cruise control systems, the DISTRONIC PLUS® controls are located on a lever attached to the vehicle’s steering column.
  • To change the cruising speed, move the lever up or down. Moving it up will cause the car to accelerate, while moving it down will slow the car down. To gradually change the speed in one mile per hour increments, gently press the lever in the necessary direction.
  • A slightly hard press on the lever will change the speed by five miles per hour.
  • Easily disengage the cruise control system by lightly applying the brakes or pushing the lever away from the driver.
  • Pulling the lever towards the driver allows the vehicle to continue at the speed that was previously set.
  • With the knob at the end of the lever, drivers can set the correct distance between them and the vehicle ahead of them. The distance set can be found on the central screen on the dashboard.
  • When drivers need to stop for more than three seconds, drivers can lightly press on the accelerator or pull the lever toward them to resume the previous speed and distance.

It’s important for drivers to remember to only use the DISTRONIC PLUS® system on the highway. Drivers should stay aware of the road and drivers around them, and never completely rely on any driver’s assist technology. Learn more about the Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS® by referring to the vehicle’s owner’s manual, or you can contact the team at Mercedes-Benz of Hampton.

Using Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist

Another function featured in the Mercedes-Benz is DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist. DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist is only available when it senses both hands are on the steering wheel and only operates at speeds up to 120 mph. When the system is active, a green steering wheel symbol is highlighted on the instrument panel. DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist tracks lane markings and the surrounding car to correctly make adjustments to steering on the roadway.
